Typhoon Egay caused P10 million in damage to irrigation projects in Negros Occidental, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported yesterday.
This brought Typhoon Egay's total damage to agriculture and fisheries in Negros Occidental to P35.1 million, according to the report presented at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council regular meeting at Nature's Village Restaurant in Talisay City, yesterday.
The meeting mainly tackled updates of damage and losses brought on by recent typhoons and calamities, a press release from the Capitol said.
The OPA reiterated that Typhoon Egay damage to crops was P23,793,405.50 and P1,329,520.00 to fisheries in Negros Occidental.
OPA has also reported on the cloud seeding activity of the provincial government that mitigated the effects of El Niño phenomenon to crops, livestock and the general public.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon said that disaster preparedness is an issue all over the world today.
“If you are prepared, there will be less casualties, less damages,” he said. *
