Rev. Fr. Henry Bendijo Hisona of the Diocese of Dumaguete died Saturday afternoon due to cardiac arrest. He was 59.
He was resident priest of the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete City since his appointment by Bishop Julito Cortes April 15, 2014 until his death.
His remains were to be transferred to the St. Catherine Cathedral last night where a vigil will be held, after the regular diocesan clergy meeting.
Today, Cortes will lead the concelebrated mass with the Dumaguete clergy before the remains of Hisona will be brought to his hometown in Basay, Negros Oriental.
The priest was born October 18, 1955 to Basilisa Bendijo and Felix Hisona. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1993 by then Dumaguete bishop and now Jaro, Iloilo Archbishop Angel Lagdameo at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete City.
Hisona's previous assignments included parochial vicar, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental (July 01, 1993); parish administrator, Sta. Catalina (Jan. 02, 1995); member, team ministers, Sta. Catalina (March 05,1996); and parish priest of Bonawon (June 17, 1997), Maria, Siquijor (March 26, 2002); and Bonbonon, Siaton (April 11, 2006 to April 14, 2014).
He attended the Nabulao Elementary School and Nabulao High School in Sipalay, Negros Occidental; studied Bachelor in Business Administration at the Victory Business College and the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City; earned his degree in Philosophy at the St. Joseph Seminary College in Negros Oriental; and studied Theology at the Seminario Mayor de San Carlos in Cebu City.
Fr. Hisona will be laid to rest July 27 with Cortes officiating in the funeral mass.*JFP
