The police chief of Isabela, Negros Occidental, was relieved yesterday from his post, three weeks after the assassination of Board Member Renato Malabor and his bodyguard, Leody Jumilla, last month.
Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, however, said that the relief of Senior Inspector Ramil Sarona as Isabela police chief, will not affect the ongoing investigation into the death of Malabor.
Sarona was replaced by Senior Inspector Anthony Grande, who used to be the deputy chief of Kabankalan City Police Station.
Nacion said Sarona already served as Isabela police chief for two years and four months.
He said Grande will serve as Isabela police officer-in-charge, pending the selection of the new police chief by Mayor Enrique Montilla III, from a list they submitted to him.
Sarona has been temporarily assigned at the NOPPO headquarters, pending announcement of his new assignment.
Malabor and Jomilla were gunned down outside a cockpit in Brgy. Guintubhan, Isabela, on June 28.
Nacion stressed that it is the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) that is conducting the probe, with an investigator from the Isabela Police Station among its members.*GPB
