Assistant Secretary Charles Jose of the Department of Foreign Affairs lobbied to make the West Philippine Sea territorial dispute with China an election issue as the country gears up for the 2016 presidential and national polls.

He sounded off his call as he met with multiple sectors in two forums on the West Philippine Sea in Dumaguete City yesterday.

The territorial dispute with China is certainly an issue that political candidates must address in the coming elections, Jose said.

to open in Dumaguete

A regional consular office of the Department of Foreign Affairs will soon open in Dumaguete City, as the agency has already prepositioned manpower and resources for it, DFA Assistant Secretary Charles Jose said yesterday.

He was in Dumaguete for a forum on the West Philippine Sea. He said he visited the proposed regional consular office at the Robinsons Mall Wednesday and announced some “good news” when asked why it took awhile for the office to become operational.

Jose said the office is almost ready to commence operation, with furnishings, computers and other equipment already in place. .

The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II announced yesterday power service interruptions in Feeder 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, affecting Dumaguete City, Valencia and Bacong towns in Negros Oriental.

Noreco 2 general manager Dionefred Macahig said they will replace rotten and leaning 3-phase primary backbone poles, and affected areas are Apolong, Balabag East and West, Balayagmanok, Balili, Balugo, Bong-ao, Bongbong, Caidiocan, Calayugan, Cambucad, Dobdob, Jawa, Liptong, Lunga, Malabo, Malaunay, Manipis, North and South Poblacion, Palinpinon, Puhagan, Pulangbato and Sagbang, Valencia;

Liptong, Timbao, Mampas, Magsuhot and Malabago in Bacong; Magatas, Southern Tubtubon and Calabnugan in Sibulan; and Balugo, Batinguel, Camanjac and, Candau-ay in Dumaguete City, the press release added.*RG
