Hard work paid off for the Pacific Ads squad after routing erstwhile league leader Chromic, 96-87, in the championship game to capture the title in the D-League Basketball 1st Conference Invitational Basketball at the STI-West Negros University gym.
Pacific Ads started with a 21-16 first quarter lead on Talisay City Vice-Mayor Niel Lizares' 8 points as Saje Policarpio, Andy Tio and Jake dela Paz delivered 4 points each, a press release from D-League said.
Nikol Medina also caught fire and scored 12 points for Pacific Ads to protect the lead despite Romar Villarosa and Jorge delos Reyes trying to keep the game close for Chromic.
In the third quarter, Chromic managed to outscore Pacific, 31-15, behind Jeffrey Rivera's 14 markers to tie the game at 61-all going into the final quarter.
Pacific Ads came out strong in the payoff period with Medina scoring 10 points and Lizares hitting 9 markers. Allan Jaena added 8 and Jake dela contributed 6 points to complete the win.
Medina finished with 22 points for the champion team as Lizares tallied 17 points, Jaena total output was 16 points wihle Jake dela Paz had 10 points. Combining for 31 points were Policarpio, Benjie Gonzales, Rizalde Sioquim, Tony Agustin, Biboy dela Paz, Tio, Jun Hinojas and Andre Burbano.
Meanwhile, Chromic was led by Rivera with 18 points, Van Rodriguez added 14, Delos Reyes hit 10, Jun Palo had 8 points, and Villarosa chipped in 7 points. Mico Celis, Chaf Butiong, Carmelo Alimon, Michael Sian, Mao Benedicto, Yok Santander, Kim Padilla and Palada accounted for the rest of the points of the losing team.
The other teams that competed in the tournament were GAB Sportswear, AA Electrical, Kublai Khan, SKF, Rotary and Boston Finance.*
