Negros Occidental and Bacolod officials yesterday said they expect President Benigno Aquino III to report on the surge in the nation's economic growth in his State of the Nation Address today, and cited him for the unprecedented infrastructure and agricultural assistance given to the province and city under his watch.

The President will deliver his SONA at the House of Representatives plenary hall in Batasan Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, this afternoon.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said he expects the President to discuss the much improved economy of the country during his watch, and announce the name of the candidate he is endorsing for president at a later date.moremoremore

bus injures 4 more

A driver and his three passengers were injured when the tricycle they were on collided with a Ceres bus at Bangga Ruins, Lacson Street in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City, at about 4:50 p.m. yesterday, Senior Insp. Ruel Culanag, Station 3 commander, said.

Driver Jimy Monterde, 31, and passengers Romulo Olveros, Monico Mangangit, and Jose Cortezano of Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City, were brought to the Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital, Culanag said.

Monterde was under observation while Olveros, Mangangit and Cortezano sustained minor injuries, Culanag said.moremoremore

COAST GUARD SAYS
600 personnel, vessels
to secure APEC in Cebu

CEBU CITY – A maritime security unit will deploy some 600 personnel and several vessels to secure the venue and delegates of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit ministerial meetings in Cebu starting next month.

Some 3,200 delegates are expected to arrive in Cebu to attend the senior ministerial meetings, a government press release said.

The Interagency Maritime Security Task Unit is headed by Commodore Enrico Evangelista, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard, who said the maritime security unit is composed of personnel from the PCG 7, Naval Forces Central, Philippine National Police-Maritime Group, Cebu Port Authority, Maritime Industry Authority, PCG Auxiliary and the Federation of Volunteers through Radio Communication Inc. moremoremore
