focused projects faster
BY CARLA GOMEZ

President Benigno Aquino III said yesterday that with the creation of the Negros Island Region (NIR), the allocation of funds by government for the area will become more focused.

Negrenses will benefit faster and more directly from the projects implemented within the NIR, the president said in his speech during the celebration of the country's 117th Independence Day at the Santa Barbara Church in Iloilo.

Aquino said he signed Executive Order 183 recently creating the Negros Island Region, that brings Negros Occidental and Oriental under one regional grouping. moremoremore

BRINGING CAMPAIGN TO GRASSROOTS
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Senator Nancy Binay yesterday shrugged off the support being extended by Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. to Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, the presumptive presidential bet of the Liberal Party in the 2016 elections, stressing that they will directly deal with the people at the grassroots level.

“What is important for us, deretso kami sa tao (we go straight to the people), although the support of local government executives is also important,” Binay, who arrived in Bacolod City last night, said.

“But at the end of the day, for us, our focus is on the grassroots level”, Binay, who was joined last night by Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, Pulupandan Mayor Miguel Peña and Board Member Patrick Lacson in dinner at a restaurant in Bacolod City, said. moremoremore

He was reacting to reports that somebody had caused the early termination of Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel Jr., as officer in charge of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, while Degamo was attending to the visit of Secretary Mar Roxas of the Department of Interior and Local Government, and visiting Iloilo as guest during the Independence Day celebration yesterday with President Benigno Aquino III. moremoremore
