Prosecutor seeking
Monico suspension

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Office of the Special Prosecutor asked the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division yesterday to suspend Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella pending the litigation of his graft case in connection with the alleged anomalous purchase of computer packages amounting to P26 million.

The graft case against Puentevella et al stemmed from the alleged anomalous purchase of computers and software packages at P400,000 each, and worth P26 million in 2001 to 2006, funded by his Priority Development Assistance Fund, or pork barrel, during his incumbency as congressman of Bacolod City.

“Considering the nature of the indictment and the validity of the criminal information against herein accused Puentevella, and invoking the mandate of the law and jurisprudence, the suspension of accused Puentevella pendente lite (pending litigation) is perforce warranted,” the prosecution said in a five-page motion submitted to the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division yesterday.moremoremore
