The Department of Justice upheld its earlier resolution dated February 18 which declared City Ordinance No. 08-14-700 of the City of Bacolod as null and void for failure to comply with the prescribed procedure under the Local Government Code in the enactment of tax ordinances.

In her resolution dated February 18, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima was acting on a consolidated appeal of appellants Proxima Centauri Realty and Development Corp. and the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. versus the Bacolod City government, Mayor Monico Puentevella, the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and City Assessor Maphilindo Polvora as appellees.

Proxima and BREDCO questioned the constitutionality and legality of City Ordinance No. 08-14-700 entitled “An Ordinance Updating the Schedule of Market Value of Real Properties in the City of Bacolod and Other Provisions Relative to Real Property Tax Administration.” moremoremore

Lawyer gets one
year SC suspension

The Office of the Court Administrator of the Supreme Court had ordered the suspension of lawyer Roger “Brick” Reyes for one year from the practice of law for violation of the Code of Professional Responsibility.

This involves the resolution of the Second Division dated August 18, 2014 in relation to Administrative case No. 10492 [formerly CBD case No. 05-1551] entitled "Dorotea Cayatas vs. Atty. Roger Reyes.”

Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, in OCA Circular No. 52-2015, cited that “The court resolves to adopt and approve the findings of fact, conclusions of law, and recommendations of the IBP Board of Governors in IBP Notice of Resolution No. XX-2013-167 dated Nov. 30, 2013, which adopted and approved with modification the report and recommendation of the investigating commissioner in the report dated July 2, 2013.” moremoremore

P500,000 ‘shabu' seized
from ‘Level 3 pusher'

Law enforcers seized more than half a million pesos worth of suspected shabu and arrested an alleged Level 3 drug pusher, in a raid in Calindagan, Dumaguete City, at about 8:20 a.m. yesterday.

Arrested was Winefredo Armentano, of Purok Orchids, Sitio Canday-ong, in the barangay, Chief Insp. Benedick Poblete of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said.

PAIDSOTG and the National Bureau of Investigation, led by Dominador Cimafranca, and in coordination with the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, swooped down on the house of Armentano, armed with a search warrant issued by Negros Oriental Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio, dated June 17, 2015. moremoremore
