Agricultural Secretary Proceso Alcala, who delivered close to P23 million in assistance to Negros Occidental yesterday, said the province will get a further boost to its agricultural growth when the Negros Island Region begins operations.

That is because a new Department of Agricultural regional office, focused only on Negros Occidental and Oriental, will mean more financial and manpower assistance, said Alcala, at a press conference at L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, last night.

Alcala and top DA and its line agency officials are in Bacolod City for their national management committee meeting today.moremoremore

Salvador Benedicto
gets agri tramline

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala yesterday said he sees huge economic growth potential for the area as he led the inauguration of a P3.39 million two-way bi-cable tramline system that will ease the transport of agricultural products from remote areas in Salvador Benedicto town to the markets.

With the tramline to help the farmers bring their produce to the markets, the Department of Agricultural will improve the quality and quantity of high value products in the town, he said.

This can easily raise the income of the town that its mayor, Jose Max Ortiz, says is P3.5 million annually to P3.5 million a month, Alcala said. moremoremore
