Ginebra in quarterfinals
of PBA Governor's Cup

Barangay Ginebra lived up to its never-say-die spirit, drawing all the breaks it needed to beat NLEX Road Warriors, 110-107, Wednesday night to grab the last quarterfinals slot of the PBA Governor's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Japeth Aguilar hit a three-point shot from the right corner with 1.7 seconds to survive already eliminated NLEX.

The Gin Kings' victory also sent Kia for an early vacation along with Talk ‘N Text and Blackwater Elite.

The Kia Carnival defeated the Meralco Bolts, 88-85, in the first game and could have advanced in the quarterfinals for the first time had the Road Warriors completed a dominance of the Gin Kings.

Actually, Ginebra, Meralco, Kia and Talk ‘N Text finished the eliminations with identical 5-6 win-loss card but the Gin Kings and the Meralco Bolts advanced in the next round via superior quotient.

“After Kia won over Meralco, I told the guys not to let this chance go away. And if we wanna do it, we've got to want it,” said Ginebra coach Frankie Lim.

As the eighth seed, Ginebra must beat top seed Alaska two in a row to make the Final Four.

In other quarterfinals matches, the Bolts will take second seed San Miguel Beer while third seed Rain or Shine battles Barako Bull and fourth seed Global Port faces the Purefoods Star Hotshots.

All the top four quarterfinalists enjoy twice-to-beat advantage.*PNA
