Cops seize more drugs, firearms

Three more unlicensed guns and about P180,000 worth of prohibited drugs were seized from seven arrested suspects in separate anti-drug operations in Negros Occidental in three days of police operations this week.

Policemen, led by Supt Antonietto Cañete, raided the suspected harboring area of Charles Jason Javelosa, who has a pending arrest warrant for violation of Section 11, Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), in Brgy. Saraet, Himamaylan City, on Wednesday.

Javelosa, who also ranks number one in the drug watch list of the Himamaylan police, managed to escape, by firing his gun at the police raiding team, while withdrawing, Cañete said.

However, the police managed to arrest three suspects identified as Roderick Gonzaga, 38; Mark Gil Sumog-oy, 18; and Loreto Aldea, 22, all residents of Himamaylan City, for alleged violation of sections 7 and 15 of RA 9165, or using prohibited drugs and visiting a drug den.

Himamaylan police investigation showed that the three arrested suspects and Javelosa were having a pot session, when the raid took place.

The police raiding team also recovered about 30 grams of suspected shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, a 9mm KG9 Luger pistol with a magazine containing 16 live ammunitions, and three ammunition for a .45 caliber pistol.

Cañete said they also recovered three empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.

Last month, the police also seized about P75,000 worth of shabu in Himamaylan City, its records show.

Senior Inspector Romeo Vargas also reported the arrest of Raymund Cardenas and Ira Santa Maria on June 22 in Brgy. Sibucao, San Enrique, that yielded four sachets of suspected shabu, and a .38 caliber revolver with five ammunitions.

On the same day, a certain Juanito de la Cruz, was also apprehended by the police in Brgy. 21, Victorias City, for having a 357 caliber revolver with two live ammunitions, and an empty shell in his possession, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, city police chief, said.

Meanwhile, the arrest of Jomar Sanchez in Brgy.Cambaog, Hinigaran, also yielded 10 suspected marijuana cigarettes, police records showed.*GPB
