Bitay explains leaving GSIS
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Former Negros Occidental Gov. Daniel “Bitay” Lacson Jr. yesterday said he resigned as chairman of the Government Service Insurance System in September last year yet for health reasons, and his resignation was accepted on May 24.

Lacson, who assumed the GSIS chairmanship in July 2010, is known to have brought numerous reforms to the agency to boost its economic viability, and to provide better and faster services to its members.

He submitted his resignation last year on the advise of his heart doctor, Lacson said.

My doctor suggested avoiding very stressful activities, he said, pointing out that his blood pressure would spike during very long Board meetings.

Asked who his replacement as GSIS chairman is, Lacson said a search is going on and he will leave that to the Office of the President to announce.

News of his resignation is not new because a lot of Negrenses have known about it since last year yet, he said.

Lacson said he is very happy with the state of the GSIS now.*CPG
