int’l taekwondo tilt

The Philippine taekwondo team rode roughshod over the opposition in the preliminaries of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Taekwondo Invitational Championships, but met rough sailing en route into the semifinals losing to Korea and Mongolia in the afternoon matches of the international competition held Saturday, the first day of hostilities at the SM City Mall Activity Center in Mandurriao in Iloilo City.

Bacoleña Irene Therese Bermejo managed to snatch a bronze medal for the Philippine delegates in her category.

Despite fighting before a sizable hometown crowd, the Filipinos bowed  to their Korean rivals in the semifinals male under 68 kg category, and female under 57 kg, and against Mongolia in the male under 68 kg category.

In the battle for gold, Vietnam beat the Philippines, 9-3 in the female under 49 kg category, while Korea blanked USA, 11-0 in the female under 57 kg category.

Two Filipinos figured in the male under 58 kg category finals, Francis Aaron Agojo of Bacolod City and Jenas Torillos from Manila with the former winning the gold over the latter, 15-3.*PNA
