SP probes slash and burn
activities at Twin Lakes

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has called the attention of the Environment and Natural Resources Division of Negros Oriental to explain why kaingin or slash and burn activities continue at the vicinity of the Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao in Sibulan town.
ENRD Mercy Teves was invited to the next regular session of the SP to shed light on the reported kaingin activities, in spite of the presence of organized groups of farmers in the area, and a group of Bantay Lasang.
Board Member Arnulfo Teves showed pictures of two kaingin activities near the lake during the session, and said that, at first, he thought it was a natural fire, but upon initial investigation, it was clear that it was deliberately set since areas surrounding the kaingin portion had been cleared to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the forest.

Suspected carnapper A carnapped motorcycle was recovered and the suspect arrested in a hospital in Dumaguete City Sunday, when the vehicle reportedly figured in an accident three days after it was stolen. The Honda XR 200 motorcycle, registered in the name of Richard Agua, was carnapped while parked near the store of his sister-in law in Barangay Taclobo, Dumaguete City February 27. Two days later, the motorcycle was reported to have been involved in a traffic accident in Bais City, Negros Oriental, with a black Innova, driven by Clarence Arthur Fairchild and registered in the name of Ely Dejaresco of the Negros Chronicle and Bai Radio FM in Dumaguete City. |

2,546 Tesda scholars Director general Joel Villanueva led the graduation rites for 2,546 scholars of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Negros Oriental who completed their skills training and received starter kits during the activity in Dumaguete City Monday. Villanueva also led distribution of equipment, such as welding machines, to specific course graduates at the Macias Sports and Cultural Complex in Dumaguete. Governor Roel Degamo, Vice Gov. Mark Macias, some board members and 10 mayors were present, with regional and provincial TESDA officials, TESDA-accredited schools and scholars. |
