SJI Aspirants team complete
volleyball grandslam victory

St. John’s Institute Aspirants girls’ volleyball team beat St. Theresita’s Academy on Saturday’s playoff, 25-16, 25-22, to sweep all titles in NOPSSCEA girls’ volleyball for school year 2014-2015 at the USLS Covered Court.

The talent-laden SJI girls’ volleyball teams, mentored by Peter Yusay, were crowned NOPSSCEA champion in both elementary and high school last year. The elementary conquered St. Francis of Assisi School in the finals, while the high school team prevailed over perennial rival University of St. La Salle- IS in their titular showdown.

In the Aspirants competition, the girls from Hua Ming were unbeaten in the elimination round and topped the Bracket A while STA took the No. 1 spot in Bracket B.

CHMSC announces
basketball tryout sked

The Carlos Hilado Memorial State College – Talisay City will hold a men’s basketball tryout on April 6 to 8 for high school graduates who want to avail of athletic scholarships.

Krislan Ong, CHMSC in-charge for basketball operations, said the tryout will be held at the newly-renovated gymnasium of the school.

Qualified to join the tryout are Incoming college freshmen not older than 22 years, Ong said.

Belangel set to join Batang Gilas 16 U

After establishing his presence in the Ateneo Blue Eaglets team, Bacoleño cager Sam Josef Belangel is setting his targets on wearing the national colors for the Batang Gilas 16 Under team.

Reports from Belangel’s family friends in Bacolod City said that the talented young cager has been named team captain for the national junior team.

Belangel is the s son of former University of St. La Salle point guard Sammy. He made his mark as a young basketeer in Eliakim Learning School, USLS, St. Joseph's Academy-Iloilo and Bacolod Tay Tung High School before he joined the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eaglets.
