A night of Broadway

LA VIDA NEGRENSE

As the curtain closed and the lights faded, you can still feel the adrenalin and excitement of the superb acting performances and costumes of the actors and actresses of the epic Broadway musical, La Cage Aux Folles, that received an overwhelming standing ovation from an elated audience. The success of the musical was sweeter since it stars our very own Miss Saigon alumna and proud Negrense Analin Bantug as Jacqueline.

The Broadway show in itself is a three-time Tony Award winner for best musical. It was recently held at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at RCBC Plaza in Makati, produced by 9 Works Theatrical, and directed by Robbie Guevarra.

The musical is based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, and set against the backdrop of the 70s and the French Riviera. The shows main actors were Audie Gemora, Michael de Mesa and Steven Silva, Raul Montesa and Sheila Fransisco.

It was a joyful reunion and a night filled with dancing and music for family and friends of Negrense Anee Malayang as she recently celebrated her 56th birthday at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel. She jetted home from the United States after five years to celebrate her birthday with her family and friends. The celebrator is the daughter-in-law of the late Negrense pianist, Bebing Corteza. The celebration was a back-to-back affair as her grandson, Miguel, also celebrated his 8th birthday. Miguel is the son of Kaine Corteza, Island Living Channel’s pioneering employee, and the network’s creative director and DOP.*
