Labor group opposes
portal payroll scheme

Members of the New Independent Workers Organization are  seeking to abolish the new portal payroll scheme saying  it is inutile for  handling the payroll of employees.

Emmanuel Bandola, NIWO president, said at a press conference in Bacolod City yesterday, that the new online payroll is a form of labor oppression and a clear unfair labor practice that  resulted in  a flagrant violation of economic benefits or salaries.

All Coca-Cola employees are affected  by  the rampant and excessive payroll errors that  accumulate unclaimed wages for every payroll without an assurance of pay-off on the next payday and thereafter, Bandola said.

He said the issue on the payroll  has been going  on for  two consecutive years already. Three different types of payroll systems were  introduced but nothing has changed, and the errors are still recurring, Bandola added.

All  employees, especially those who are not knowledgeable in computers,  will have  added workload in tracing where the unpaid working hours went, Bandola said.

Recently, another new payroll system was implemented  to modify and improve  the previous system, but they got  even worse, as wages of employees diminished by more than 50 percent, Bandola said.

The General Alliance of Worker’s Association members and officers are  supporting the NIWO members.

“The imposition of the portal online payroll system resulted in the diminution of the workers salaries or wages which constitute a flagrant violation of the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement between the union and the company,” a press release from the organization said.

The unfair labor practice inflicted upon the workers concerned violates their right to  an adequate and just remuneration, the press release added.*SGG
