LopTTA grabs
2nd place in Flexi Cup

The Lopue's Table Tennis Association captured the first runner-p trophy in the women's singles open category and added two second runner-up finishes  in the men's team open and executive singles event of the 7th Flexible Cup International Table Tennis Invitational Championships held at Glorietta, Makati on March 7-8, a press release from LOPTTA said.

LOPTTA mainstay Marell Lagunday relied on her experience and composure to finish at No. 2 out of the 16 top women's singles players in the tournament.

After topping her bracket in the elimination round, Lagunday bowed to current national team member Sedrina Balatbat of Tollways in the final.

Among her victims in the early stages of the tournament were Jannah Romero of TATAND-Manila, current national team member Jamaica Sy of DLSU-TAFT and former national team member Arlene Arnibal of Makati, the press release said.

In the quarterfinals, Lagunday won against Danica Alboro of University of Santo Tomas then went on to tame Anta Abas in the semifinals to arrange a final showdown against Balatbat.

Meanwhile, in the tightly contested men's team open event, LOPTTA team composed of Rodel Valle, Isaias Seronio, Celjun Ortalla and Mark Francis Jimenez took the second runner-up honors after losing in the semifinals against eventual champion Sunsports A – Singapore, the press release said.

Huaching team of Cebu represented by Richard Gonzales, Lauro Crisostomo and Glendo Nayre took the silver after osing to Sunsports - A in the championship.

Sharing the second runner-up honors with LOPPTA was the Adidas - Manila team of Michael Dalumpines, Zoren Mendiola, Japhet Adasa and Marcos de Jesus who lost to Huaching in the other semifinal match.

In the executive singles category, Hosea Alvarez of LOPTTA made an impressive run by recording a clean slate in the group stage elimination round by defeating Allan Ong - Davao, Peter Lim of Starpaper-Manila and Gabriel Soh of Singapore.

However, he fell short against Charlie Lim of TATAND-Manila in a nailbiting decider 3-2 during the semifinal match. Kim from Korea won the crown after winning against Lim in the final, 3-1.

Now on its 7th edition, the biannual tournament is considered as one of the toughest table tennis tournament in the Philippines and drew participation from other countries  such as Singapore, Korea and Malaysia, the press release added.*
