Beer na Beer eliminated Tanduay Black, 71-61, Friday then went on to beat powerhouse Rotary Club of Metro Bacolod Nestea Ice Tea, 81-62, on Monday night as the squad posted back-to-back victories in Class B of the Fil Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Invitational Basketball Cup at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Also posting a big win was Tanduay Ice, which prevented Colt 45 from claiming the No. 1 spot with a 69-57 tally in their latest match-up.
Despite the victory, Beer na Beer needs to win its last game in the elimination to secure the last semifinal seat
After trailing Rotary, 15-17 in the first quarter, Beer Na Beer bounced back in the second canto for a 37-28 halftime lead as Keith Banzon and Joel Masadia combined for 13 points.
Despite an 8-point explosion from Julius Teruel for Rotary in the third quarter, Beer Na Beer managed to stay ahead with a 16-point advantage at 56-40 going into the payoff period.
Rotary tried to reverse the outcome of the game with Teruel and Monroe Chua combining for 13 points in the final minutes but Rotary failed to stop Beer na Beer as Banzon unleashed five triples to complete the upset win.
Banzon finished with 22 points as Joel Masadia tallied 13, while Siopao Dichavez finished with 10 points, Jp Tan added 9 and Ton Ton Chua with 8 points.
Teruel led Rotary with 21 points while teammates Christian Castro and Alex Fernandez picked up 9, and Chua hit 8 points.
In the other game, Tanduay Ice played with urgency and kept Colt 45 at bay with a 39-25 lead at halftime.
Colt 45 trimmed the lead at 52-42 at the end of the third quarter and drew closer at 57-55 with three minutes left in the game but an 8-2 closing run courtesy of the stellar play of Mic Mic Germudo allowed Tanduay Ice to escape with the win and keep their hopes alive for a seat in the semifinals.
