LTFRB nixes plea to suspend
P10 taxi flagdown rate slash

A surprise inspection was conducted by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on public utility buses and mini buses at the north and south bus terminals of Vallacar Transit and mini buses at the public north and south terminals yesterday in Bacolod City.

LTFRB Regional Director Romulo Bernades said yesterday that the inspection is part of their “Ligtas Byahe” program, and concerns road safety, and the safety of passengers and pedestrians.

They plan to inspect all bus units of franchises, as well as their engines in preparation for the influx of passengers during the holy week and summer holiday, he said.

Ceneco board bet files appeal

A candidate for the board of directors of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative has filed an appeal asking the National Electrification Administration to reverse and set aside the March 13 resolution of the screening committee and declare Rodolfo Salga Sr. disqualified as candidate for the board of directors of Ceneco representing District 3 – Bacolod Central.

In his appeal, Jojit Yap said that Salga had ran in the local election held immediately preceding the Ceneco election on March 21.

Earlier, the Ceneco screening committee had denied the protest of Yap and declared Salga qualified to be a candidate for the Ceneco board of director for District 3.

Tourists arrivals up 9.64%

Tourist arrivals in Negros Occidental reached 1,235,219 last year, which is about 9.64 percent higher than that of 2013, with only 1,126,583 visiting the province, Provincial Tourism Officer Christine Mansinares told the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Of the 1,235, 219 visitors last year, 1,131,495 were domestic, or local tourists, 1,134 Overseas Filipino workers and balikbayans, while the rest were foreigners, Mansinares said.

She said tourists arrivals last year surpassed the target of both the Negros Occidental and Bacolod City tourism offices that is 1.1 million visitors by the end of 2014.
