A 65-year-old mother of five in Bacolod City was sentenced yesterday to life imprisonment for the sale of shabu, and to an additional 15 years for possession of illegal drugs.
Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 47 Judge Therese Blanche Bolunia found Aida Ledona Descutido guilty beyond reasonable doubt of selling .23 gram of shabu to a police poseur buyer in exchange for P500 at Galo Street in Barangay 22, Bacolod City, on Feb. 22, 2005, and sentenced her to life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000.
Descutido was also found guilty of possession of 4.25 grams of shabu on Feb. 22, 2005, and sentenced to a prison term of 12 years and one day as minimum, and 15 years as maximum, and to pay a fine of P300,000.
Bolunia ordered the turnover of the seized drugs to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for immediate destruction, and the commitment of Descutido to the national penitentiary for the service of her sentence.
Meanwhile, Bolunia dismissed charges against Joenar Tan Pugoy for illegal possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia for insufficiency of evidence and reasonable doubt.
Pugoy had been arrested by the police on Sept. 12, 2005 in Purok Cereza 2, Barangay 27, Bacolod City.*CPG
