BY CARLA GOMEZ

President Benigno Aquino III said yesterday that he hopes to sign an executive order creating the Negros Island Region within weeks.

Aquino met with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo at the inauguration of the Negros First CyberCentre in Bacolod City.

“They have assured me that all contentious issues have already been dealt with; there are no contentious issues remaining. I agreed with them that they will present a draft of the proposed IRR (implementing rules and regulations), which we will also incorporate into the executive order to make this a reality,” Aquino said. moremoremore

Pray for me, Manny
asks Bacoleños

People's Champ Manny Pacquaio is asking the Bacoleños to pray for him and support him in his match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 (May 3, Sunday, Philippine time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada dubbed as the "Battle for Greatness" and "The Fight of the Century."

Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia said this was the specific request of Pacquiao to Bacoleños during their talk yesterday at the latter's suite in Las Vegas.

Pacquaio, a congressman of Sarangani Province, is the seatmate of Leonardia in the House of Representatives. He had been declared an “adopted son” of Bacolod when Leonardia was its Mayor.moremoremore

PNoy orders DOJ to speed up
case vs. Veloso's recruiters

The Bureau of Customs in Manila is urging BoC district collector Arnulfo Marcos and Dumaguete Port OIC collector Fe Lluelyn Toring to fast-track the inventory of smuggled rice from Malaysia so legal action can immediately proceed against those responsible, including the consignee who appeared to claim the delivery.

Toring said unloading of the sacks of rice from M/L Al-Althie was stopped due to lack of space at the BoC office in Dumaguete. She confirmed orders from her superiors to look for a bodega where the shipment can be stocked in one area and be secured during the pendency of the case.moremoremore
