IN TALISAY
58 scholars get refund

Fifty-eight scholars under the “Scholarship sa Masa” program of the Talisay City government received their refund for the first semester of school year 2014-2015 Tuesday, a press release from the city said.

The refunds ranged from P4,000 to P8,365, depending on the scholar's tuition and miscellaneous fees each semester. Twenty of them are from the Technological University of the Philippines in the Visayas and 38 from the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, the press release also said.

The city government shouldered the tuition and miscellaneous fees of students, and they, in return, render community services to the city. Mayor Eric Saratan said that to make sure that scholars will continue to pursue their studies, his administration opted to give refunds instead of directly releasing financial assistance during enrollment, the press release added.*
