Food suppliers urged to
ensure safe products
The Food and Drug Administration advised food suppliers in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental to ensure that their food is clean and safe for human consumption, whether they are fresh or processed, a government press release said yesterday.
Dr. Oscar Gutierrez, FDA in-charge of policy and planning, said Republic Act No. 10611, or “The Food Safety Act of 2013”, strengthens the food safety regulatory system in the country to protect consumer health, and facilitate market access of local foods and food products.
Ed Du, Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, said the lack of sanitation is a problem among food handlers, especially ambulant vendors who are operating without sanitation permits.

SU writers' The 54 th Silliman University National Writers Workshop that will open May 11 at the Rose Lamb Sobrepeña Writers Village in Camp Look-out, Valencia town, Negros Oriental, will be participated in by 12 writers from all over the Philippines, a press release from SU said yesterday. This year's panel of writers/critics includes director-in-residence Ricardo de Ungria, Dumaguete-based writer César Ruìz Aquino, and regular panelists Gémino Abad, Marjorie Evasco, Susan Lara, and Alfred Yuson; and guest panelists Timothy Montes, Dinah Roma, Patricia Evangelista and Eliza Victoria. They will be joined by foreign panelists, Dr. Gwee Li Sui of Singapore and Dr. Tammy Ho Lai Ming of Hong Kong. The workshop will feature lectures by Gwee Li Sui on “Poeticising Love”, 10 a.m. May 14, at the ASRC Robert B. and Metta J. Silliman Library, and Tammy Ho on “The Ghost in the Machine: Poems on Photographs”, 10 a.m. on May 21, also at the ASRC Robert B. and Metta J. Silliman Library. Ho will also have the Philippine launch of her first poetry book, “Hula Hooping” 5 p.m. May 21, in the same venue, the press release said. . |
