GSIS opens
scholarship application

The Government Service Insurance System Dumaguete Branch is accepting applications for the college scholarship program for school year 2015-2016 that will provide GSIS members the opportunity to send their incoming college freshmen children to colleges and universities for quality education, its manager, Mercedes Enriquez said.

The scholar may opt to take a four- or five-year course but must meet the scholastic requirements set by the Commission on Higher Education, a press release from GSIS said.

Enriquez said 20 slots of GSIS Scholarship Program are for qualified dependents of persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and solo or single parents.

Dependents of PWDs, IPs, and single parents under Republic Act 8972, or the Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2000, have more chances to avail of the educational college grant. She said GSP is open to all active GSIS members who, at the time of application, have paid premium contributions for the last six months; and are permanent government employees for at least three years.

Government employees with salary grades 24 and below can nominate their children to the scholarship grant that has 200 slots available nationwide. The GSIS Dumaguete Branch will accept applications with complete documentary requirements until June 11.

Application forms may be obtained from the branch office, or downloaded from the GSIS website at www.gsis.gov.ph, and submitted to Johnadel Leong of GSIS Dumaguete Branch, the press release added.*
