firm to host App Camp

Akubo, a Bacolod-based company that offers customer database service for small organizations, will host the Summer App Camp interactive learning, inspiration, and collaboration, May 25-29, at its office at Burgos Avenue corner B.S. Aquino Drive in Bacolod City, its press release said.

The camp will focus on introducing participants to Xcode, a software for making iPad apps, and the basics of creating a simple game app. It is limited to eight participants and is open to high school students, with Akubo's software engineer, Reggie Cabalo, who is currently studying to earn his MIT, as instructor, the press release also said.

It is the first event under Akubo's project called Esturya, a growing series of interactive apps that combine code, design, and storytelling to promote Filipino culture.

Its first app in 2013 is the digital storybook, “Inting and Butud”, that teaches children raised abroad the local dialects, like Ilonggo and Tagalog. The Sabor Filipino Cookbook, released in early 2015 for free, features the country's famous regional recipes.

Standard fee for the five-day App Camp is P2,000, inclusive of snacks, T-shirts, freebies, and certificate. Groups of two and three also get a discounted fee, or P1,800/pax for duo and P1,700/pax for trio, the press release also said.

Reliv's free trip
qualifiers announced

The qualifiers from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental of the “Win Your Way” promo of Reliv International were announced in a press release yesterday.

The multinational company, based in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, said the promo, which ran from October 2014 to March 2015, was open to all Reliv distributors throughout the Asia Pacific Region, and qualifiers will enjoy an all-expense paid trip/s for two to USA and/or Phuket, Thailand, the press release also said.

For the US and Thailand trips, the eight couples from Bacolod and Negros Occidental included Nenit and Rimel Dayap, Dolly and Nitz Lilles, and Vigee and Bev Jaro. British hair stylist to
hold workshop in Bacolod

International hair stylist and beauty therapist, Laura Charlton, will be in Bacolod City this week to give a workshop on the latest trends and techniques of the season to selected local hair stylists and salon owners, a press release from Nouvelle said.

Bacolod is the second area in the series of Nouvelle's roadshow entitled, ‘Don't Go Breaking My Hair,” that brings together top brands and personalities in the beauty and fashion industry to showcase a fun and fabulous range of vibrant hair color shares perfect for this season, the press release said.

Complementing this hair collection are the creations of local designers. The two-day workshop will culminate in a fashion show presentation of these new hair and fashion trends at Avenue Suites on Thursday, it said.

Charlton comes from a clan of hairdressers from Northeast England with father, David Charlton of David's Salon as her chief mentor. She has a multitude of training under her belt and has conducted various lectures and seminars for notable salons like Toni & Guy, Vidal Sassoon and Paul Mitchell.
