WV bags gold in secondary football,
elem cagers, booters settle for silver

Mission accomplished, was how local football followers described the gold medal won by Western Visayas, against the National Capital region in the secondary boys' football competition of the 2015 Palarong Pambansa in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The match ended 1-all in regulation but the boys' from Region 6, with the core of the team coming from San Carlos FC in Negros Occidental, beat the NCR-FEU team, 3-2, in the shootout with Joshua Broce, Ashtley Pamilar and Jed Deliarte scoring the winning goals.

The NCR had their revenge in elementary football with a 5-1 win against Western Visayas, while host Davao got away with the gold medal in elementary basketball after pulling off a 67-66 overtime win.

Filipina boxer Marnelle “Shark 2” Verano of Valencia City, Bukidnon, captured the vacant Women's International Boxing Association world super flyweight crown Friday night at the La Mirage Receptions and Convention Centre in Somerton, Victoria, Australia.

The 27-year old Verano (6-2-1, 2 KOs) scored a unanimous decision against previously unbeaten Australia female bantamweight champion Sylvia Scharper (3-1, 1 KO) in 10-round championship fight.

Two judges saw the fight 97-93 and the third judge had it 98-92 all in favor of the 5-foot-6 Verano.

Leman's earns finals ticket after win
vs. DRJ, to face Painters in best-of-3

Leman's Hardware Silay barged into the championship round after repulsing Thursday night DRJ Wellness, 100-93, in the semifinal round of the Ayala Basketball Club-Kalimansi Mix Cup at the Ayala Northpoint.

After losing its initial semis encounter, Leman's fought hard up to the very end as it survived a late DRJ rally to enter the championship round for the fifth time in the last six conferences.

Leman's will clash with Sugarland Hardware for the coveted crown in the best-of-three series starting this evening.
