Army worms have infested at least 40 hectares of rice fields in Sitio Tomarog , Brgy. Gatuslao in Candoni, Negros Occidental, Nicholas Lachica II, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, told the DAILY STAR yesterday.
Lachica said the rice fields were treated immediately with a systemic pesticide to arrest further spread of the infestation.
He said they are still assessing the damage caused by the swarming of the army worms in the area.


Bulk water bid requirements
comply with law, Baciwa says
The requirements set by the Bids and Awards Committee of the Bacolod City Water District for its bulk water supply project is in accordance with the law, Jenelyn Gemora, assistant general manager for operations of the firm, said yesterday
Gemora was reacting to the plan of Utility Consumer Alliance of Negros to come up with a position paper, or seek clarification on issues involving the project.
Vicente Petierre lll , legal counsel of UCAN, had said that one of the issues he observed during the pre-bid conference Thursday was the requirement of a memorandum of agreement between the mayor of the city or municipality where water is to be sourced to supply Baciwa consumers.


Ceneco seeking proposals
for mini hydro plant dev't
The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Board and Management yesterday announced that they are open to proposals from different sector groups, companies, and individuals for the development of CENECO water rights in Maragandang and Kipot (Bantolinao) rivers in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
This is pursuant to Board Resolution No. 10905 Series of 2014, a press release from CENECO said.
The National Water Resources Council has already issued water permits to CENECO for the conversion of its water rights for the exploration and utilization of Maragandang and Bantolinao rivers into renewable energy, it said.
