BSP calling for
vigilance vs. text scams

MANILA-- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas yesterday urged the public to remain wary once they receive text messages saying they won in a raffle or a lottery.

In an advisory, the central bank said these scams “continue to persist.”

Under this scheme, the text messages inform would-be victims to deposit certain amount of money to a bank account or send prepaid load to the sender's mobile number to be able to collect the prize money.

”The BSP once again warns the public that the BSP does not sponsor or engage in any games of chance, lottery or raffle of such nature,” the advisory said.

”The public is reminded to remain vigilant about these scams and other fraudulent schemes to avoid any financial loss or damage,” it added.*PNA
