Monico says he's sick,
no show at arraignment

A medical certificate issued by the Bacolod City Health Office stating that he is suffering from hypertension due to stress led the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division to reset the arraignment of the criminal case filed against Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella to May 22, when he failed to show up at the hearing yesterday.

The case involves the questionable Information Technology package worth about P26 million purchased from his Priority Development Assistance Fund when he was yet congressman of Bacolod City .

The Court, however, also denied the request of Puentevella to travel to Switzerland, as well as his motion to defer his arraignment due to his pending petition in the Supreme Court..moremoremore

SRA readies
Sugarcane Act's IRR

The Sugar Regulatory Administration that is holding a series of public consultations on the implementing rules and regulations of the Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2015 is set to submit its final draft to the secretary of agriculture at the end of the month for signing, SRA Administrator Ma. Regina Martin said yesterday.

Under the law the Department of Budget and Management is mandated to include annually, starting 2016, an amount of P2 billion, for the sugarcane industry's development.

Of the amount, 15 percent will go to grants for bloc farms, 15 percent to socialized credit, 15 percent to research and development, 5 percent for scholarship grants and 50 percent for infrastructure support programs.moremoremore

‘Change airport's name'

The Dumaguete Airport is located within the jurisdiction of Sibulan, Mayor Emmanuel Diputado said and the Sangguniang Bayan has passed a resolution requesting the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to change its name to Sibulan-Dumaguete Airport.

He said the confusion will not be much as it can be done by simply putting the word “Sibulan” in its name.

Meawhile, Diputado said he is against proposals to extend and expand the present airport sideward without a thorough study involving environmental concerns, security and social acceptability of the project
