Senator Sergio Osmeña III and Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4 th District) have filed bills stressing that raw cane sugar and raw sugar are one and the same and should be exempted from Value Added Tax, contrary to revenue regulations issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The House Committee on Ways and Means, headed by Rep. Romero Quimbo (Marikina City, 2 nd District), is holding a public hearing on House Bill 5713, filed by Ferrer, at the Belmonte Hall of the House of Representatives in Quezon City 1:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Sugar industry stakeholders, who have been complaining against the BIR's imposition of advance VAT on raw sugar, which they say should be exempt, have been invited to the hearing.moremoremore

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said he is okay now and can go back to work as advised by his doctor, after he was reportedly hospitalized due to stress and hypertension Thursday when his arraignment was scheduled at the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division .

Earlier, his lawyer submitted a medical certificate to the Sandiganbayan issued by the Bacolod City Health Office stating that he is suffering from hypertension due to stress and should rest for 10 days.

When he failed to show up at the hearing Thursday, t he Sandiganbayan reset the arraignment of the criminal case filed against him to May 22.moremoremore

The dumpsite and ecological park of Dumaguete City will again smell bad if the order for additional stocks of biological enzymes will not be delivered on time.

In the meantime, efforts are being taken to mitigate it while waiting for the arrival of additional supplies, City Administrator William Ablong said recently.

Ablong asked City Environment and Natural Resources officer, Rey Awayan, if it would be possible to double the frequency of spraying the biological enzymes, from two to four times each day, but was told that the stocks could last only up to May 19, with just around 10 kilos in the inventory..moremoremore
