The Philippine Sugar Research Institute Foundation Inc. recently held a Techno Update Seminar at the Victorias Golf and Country Club in Victorias City.
Eighty-four sugarcane planters, farm overseers and representatives from Victorias Milling Co. and planters' association in the mill district attended the seminar, a press release from Eduardo Duarte said.
PHILSURIN chairman Francis de la Rama, who gave the opening remarks made an urgent call to sugarmen to strengthen PHILSURIN research through their voluntary support to the association, stressing its indispensability.
Dr. Liwayway Engle, PHISURIN breeder consultant, said “Research is the life-blood of the sugar industry,” the press release said.
VMC president and COO Eduardo Concepcion challenged PHILSURIN researchers to breed high yielding varieties to produce 80 to 100 tons per hectare with 3.0 LKG/ TC equivalent to 240 to 300 50-kilo bags per hectare for global competitiveness, the press release also said.
In his closing remarks, Victorias Mill District Development Council chairman Nemesio de la Cruz emphasized that the decision-making of a sugarcane farmer plays an important role in profitable sugarcane farming by implementing successful farm experiment results.
