Bacolod cops deputized
vs. drunk drivers
BY SHIELA GELERA

The Land Transportation Office-Region 6 has deputized the Bacolod City Police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Melchor Coronel, and 10 police station chiefs to implement Republic Act 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

Coronel yesterday said that during a seminar at the Police Regional Office-6 in Iloilo City, Monday, he and the police chiefs were trained on how to use the breath analyzer and oriented on the implementing rules and regulations of the law.

Three investigators from each police station in the city will also undergo training for the implementation of the law, Coronel said.

He said the deputation allows policemen to conduct on-the-spot apprehension of drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, since the LTO cannot conduct road operations all the time.

Meanwhile, Bacolod policemen, who augmented the security of APEC meeting in Boracay, last week, are expected to return to the city tomorrow, Coronel also said.*SGG
