Motion for reconsideration
lacks merit - Sandigan

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division yesterday denied for the second time the request of Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella to travel abroad to attend a football congress in Switzerland.

The SB denied for lack of merit the urgent motion for reconsideration filed by Puentevella asking the court to set aside its resolution of May 22 denying his request.

Puentevella's motion dated May 18 had earlier been denied by the Sandiganbayan, pointing out that, despite his manifestation that “he will request the Department of Interior and Local Government for authority to travel to Zurich, Switzerland and New York City, USA, there is no record that he filed such request, or that the DILG granted him the authority to travel abroad.”moremoremore

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Bureau of Customs Region 7 based in Cebu City has started hearing the complaints about the alleged illegal shipment of about P12 million worth of rice and other goods from Malaysia to Negros Oriental intercepted by authorities early last month.

Fe Lluelyn Toring, OIC port collector of the BOC in Dumaguete City, said yesterday they started with the complaints against the sea vessel that carried the “smuggled goods”, and hearings will be held later on the “smuggled” rice and the other confiscated goods.

The confiscated goods that amounted to P26,777,120 million include the rice, the motor launch and other items. moremoremore
