Dumaguete voters
for 2016 increase

The total number of registered voters with biometrics in Dumaguete City as of Saturday had increased by almost six percent compared to that of the May 13, 2013 general elections.

As of Sunday's count of the total number of voters registered in Dumaguete City was 80,643, city election officer Gildu Agoncillo, said.

This is 4,439 registrants more than the 76,024 previously registered voters for the 2013 mid-term elections as seen in records of the Commission on Elections.

The celebration of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in Negros Oriental Sunday and yesterday, respectively, was generally peaceful with no major crime incidents reported, Senior. Supt. Dionardo Carlos, OIC provincial police director, said.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, when All Souls' day is celebrated, the Philippine National Police had established 108 police assistance desks in all of the public and private cemeteries in the cities and towns of Negros Oriental, he said.

As early as Sunday, though, people had begun flocking to the cemeteries to visit the graves of their departed loved ones.

Court acquits 2, sentences 4

Two drug suspects dashed to freedom recently when the court found reasonable doubt in the charges filed against them, while four other accused were sentenced to suffer imprisonment as provided.

Presiding Judge Rafael Crescencio Tan Jr. of Regional Trial Court Branch 30 acquitted Diosdado Chavez, alias Andok”, and Fe Ramos, alias “Epi” for failure of the prosecution to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Meanwhile, four persons who were accused of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were sentenced separately.
