Manila team De La Salle - College of St. Benilde beat Roxas City-based Hercor, 70-56, to capture the title in men's basketball in the final day of the 20 th University Games at the STI –WNU Gym, Friday.
The title in men's basketball capped St. Benilde's successful campaign in the Unigames this year, sweeping the title in men and women's taekwondo played at VMA Global College Gym, dominating the competition in men's chess, finishing with the gold medal in women's swimming.
Rizal Technological University prevented a sweep in basketball for St. Benilde after dealing its women's team a 66-55 loss in the finals. University of Mindanao – Davao settled for third place while Ederun College – Manila placed fourth.
University of San Jose –Recoletos won the battle for third place in men's basketball against Holy Cross of Davao City, 66-60.
In men's volleyball, De La Salle University – Manila beat University of Sto. Tomas in the finals to take home the gold medal, while Adamson settled for third place. Women's volleyball title went to Far Eastern University as Adamson placed second and Arellano University at third place.
Men's football also had a new champion as University of the Philippines edged National University, 1-0 in the final match. UP advanced into the championship after dethroning USLS – Ceres team, 2-0, in the semifinals.
USLS salvaged the bronze medal by blanking St. Benilde, 3-0, in the battle for third place.
In women's football, DLSU prevailed over UST, 3-0, for the crown.
It was a sweep for SWU in beach volleyball as its men's team composed of of Rommel Pepito and Dave Cabaron outscored John Michael Acain and Mark Jason Tubil of NORSU in the finals to win the gold, while Floremel Rodriguez and Therese Rae Ramas reigned in women's division.*NAB
