“Negros Occidental: Land of Sweet Surprises” is the new tourism slogan of the province, a press release from the Capitol said.

Provincial Consultant on Investment Promotions Rafael Coscolluela yesterday said that the adopted slogan with a logo is a work in progress.

“It will show the festiveness and the diversity of Negros Occidental and its people,” Coscolluela added.

Int'l food safety summit set

Alter Trade Corp. will host an international food safety summit at Nature's Village Resort Hotel in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, November 6 to 10.

The conference on the theme “Food Sovereignty without Borders”, will gather ATC's local and international partners in the People-to-People Trade, Fair Trade, and Sustainable Agriculture and Organic Farming movements, a press release from Alter Trade said yesterday.

Food producers, consumers and marketing and financing support organizations from France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Palestine and Timor Lesti will inter-act with ATC's partner organizations from all over the country to tackle issues on food sovereignty.

NFA palay
procurement up 300 %

The Negros Occidental National Food Authority gained a 300 percent increase in its palay procurement program where from its original 1,000 bags target, the agency bought 3,000 bags and is still counting, provincial NFA manager Procopio Trabajo said yesterday.

The bigger volume of palay procurement by Negros will help the over-all NFA in its score card from the Commission on Good Government Corporation as they are considered a team in this program, he said.

He said palay-buying is on top of the agency's procurement program that protects rice farmers from the overly low price of palay due to abundant supply as it is also pegging the price of P17 per kilogram.
