IN DUMAGUETE
Quadrant security proposed
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete City OIC chief of police Supt. Jovito Atanacio is proposing the establishment of a “quadrant security” in the city because of increased economic activity and more people during the day, and the petty crimes and other crimes involving property that go with it.

A security survey was conducted to determine possible sites where four more sub-stations are recommended to be established by the police, with the support of the city government.

One possible area is a portion of the Ang Tai golf course in Bantayan, Atanacio said, due to its strategic location at the northern part of the city, while three others may be established in the south, and in the rural areas.

It will be manned by regular members of the police force and augmented by force multipliers in the city.

Atanacio also said it will require funds to acquire the area of the proposed sites after which the proposal for the proposed building itself

will be submitted to the national headquarters of the police.

In the meantime, the city police is conducting a weekly assessment of crimes committed in Dumaguete, that has resulted in the arrest of a suspected hold-upper who has victimized at least 10 women.

Atanacio has directed his intelligence operatives to increase surveillance operations during daytime, that resulted in the arrest of the suspect at about 8 a.m. with the timely reporting of a hold-up incident in Pulantubig.*JG
