Adobo fest in Silay today

The One Negros Adobo Festival that will include the 18 th Adobo Festival, and the 10 th Muscovado Competition, will be held at the Balay Negrense Museum in Silay City, Negros Occidental, today, a press release said.

The annual celebration has developed a regular crowd who look forward to the adobo lunch featuring award winning Adobo dishes prepared in different ways further complimented by the Muscovado Competition, Lyn Gamboa, Negros Cultural Foundation Inc. president, said in the press release.

Their gustatory experience will be further complemented by the Kitchen Art Exhibit, Adobo Cook-off Showdown and the various booths selling artwork, food and other goodies. This year, the festival levels up with the rising of the Adobo and its nomination to be the National Dish of the Philippines, the press release said.

Top chefs of the country will be there to demonstrate their own renditions of the country's staple dish. Its an event that one should not miss.

The opening of the Adobo Festival will be led by Mayor Jose Montelibano at 9:30 a.m. followed by Cook Off at 10 a.m. today.

The Judging of Muscovado and Adobo Dishes, Adobo Lunch, and Filipiniana Collection Fashion Show will start all 11 a.m. the press release added.*

Bacolod centenarian
gets award

Antonieta Bandono Llantino became the third beneficiary of City Ordinance No. 08-14-670, or the Centenarian Award that provides additional benefits to Filipinos who reach the age of 100, a press release from City Hall said.

Llantino was born on July 7, 1905 and lives in Murcia, Negros Occidental. She is now 110 years and 4 months old, it said.

Department of Social Services and Development head Pacita Tero yesterday presented Llantino with a check for P10,000 as financial assistance, the press release said.

City Ordinance No. 08-14-670 authored by Councilors Wilson Gamboa Jr. and Archie Baribar, is in accordance with House Bill No. 834, or the Centenarians Act of 2012 and Article XV, Section 4 of the Constitution, it said.

Filipino residents of Bacolod City who reach the age of 100 will also avail of free mobility aids and health care services, including free monthly checkup in any government hospital, a plaque of recognition as the “Centenarian Citizen Awardee”, burial assistance, and lifetime membership at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs, among others, the press release added.*
