The National Golf Association of the Philippines Visayas Regional Championship and the 2nd Alex Montelibano Memorial Tournament tees off tomorrow at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City.

The tournament is part of the MVPSF/PLDT Amateur Tour and will run until Nov. 8. Participants include elite players from the region and other entries from Luzon and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the Alex Montelibano Memorial Tournament will be participated in mostly by friends of the late Alex Montelibano, one of the pillars of golf during his lifetime.

Participants will be mostly senior golfers, who were top notch players during their younger years. Also playing in this tournament are club members who were golf buddies of Alex.

The prime mover of the tournament is Mayor Andrew Montelibano of Murcia with the support of the NGAP, where Alex was once the vice-president for the Visayas and a staunch supporter of jungolf development in Negros.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used for the grassroots development program of the NGAP and the R&A, which was started two years ago.*
