The Committee on Market and Slaughterhouse will hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. today at the SP session hall at the request of the tenants of the Manokan Country.
The Manokan Country Vendors Association led by its president, David Montoya, requested Bacolod Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez to conduct a public consultation to hear their strong opposition to the proposed sale, lease or disposal of the Manokan Country property to a private business entity.
In their letter to Lopez dated June 24, the officers of the MCVA said the Manokan Country has established a distinctive identity for Bacolod City and Negros Occidental because of its “inasal na manok (charcoal grilled chicken).”


Vegetable prices rising

Prices of primary ingredients such as onions and high-value vegetables are beginning to rise as December is fast approaching.
Provincial Agriculturist I Mary Ahcy Azuro of the Agribusiness and Marketing section of the Office of Provincial Agriculturist said yesterday that the situation is not new, especially for the Christmas season.
She said the price of onions recently went up to P120 per kilogram from the stable P40 to P60 due to the shortage of supply brought by typhoon Lando in Northern Luzon last month.


House oks on 2nd reading
salary standardization bill
MANILA –- The House of Representatives yesterday needed only one session day to pass the proposed Salary Standardization Law (SSL) for government workers, a government press release said.
It started in the House committee on Appropriations as they spent only three hours to approve the measure and immediately elevate the bill to plenary.
The panel senior vice chairman and Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr. sponsored the measure and was interpellated by ACT Teacher Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio and ABAKADA Party-list Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz.
