DTI pushes
product development

BY KARLA PANGANIBAN

The Department of Trade and Industry is calling Micro, Small and Medium entrepreneurs in Negros Occidental to constantly work on product development to please customers and counter competitors in order to survive in the business.

DTI senior trade and industry specialist, Mae Buaron, said yesterday that Product Development and Designs Center of the Philippines, an attached agency of DTI and specializes in product development, visited the Yssa's Craft of Precy Perez recently where designers gave one-on-one consultations and new designs for existing products.

In the previous months designers also visited the factories of producers of food, gifts, decors and house wares in the province and assessed their strengths and potentials.

She said product development and innovations must be complemented by trade fairs because these are the best judges in determining the saleability and potential of the product in the market, whether local or foreign.

Expositions play an important part for they are where buyers look for new trends and the latest innovations, she added.*KDP
