Kasambahay pay hearing set
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board is holding a public hearing in Iloilo City on December 4 for a P500 monthly increase in the wages of kasambahays (household helpers) in Western Visayas, Wennie Sancho, RTWPB labor representative, said yesterday.

The RTWPB decided on its own to hold a hearing even without a petition for an increase in the wages of kasambahays, he said.

The law states that, the minimum wage for domestic workers is P2,000 a month in chartered cities and first class municipalities, and P1,500 a month for those employed in other municipalities, Sancho said.

The General Alliance of Workers' Associations will also hold consultations with kasambahays in Bacolod City to get inputs from them, he added.*CPG
