Senator Sergio Osme ñ a III yesterday said d omestic and foreign investors can look forward to a faster and more efficient process of doing business in Negros Island with the establishment soon of a Securities and Exchange Commission office in Bacolod City.
Osmeña, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies, said he has successfully sponsored House Bill No. 2360 in the Senate, which creates a SEC extension office in Bacolod City to de-clog business registration applications at the SEC-Iloilo office.
Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia was the principal author of House Bill No. 2360 in the Lower House.
Senator Sergio Osmeña III yesterday said he expects his bill stressing that raw cane sugar and raw sugar are one and the same and should be exempted from the Value Added Tax, contrary to revenue regulations issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue, will be passed by the Senate soon.
The house version of the bill authored by Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) has already been approved.
When the Senate passes his bill, Osmeña told the DAILY STAR the bicameral committee will harmonize it with the House version so it can be signed into law.

PNP backs DOE in drive against
LPG-refilled butane canisters
The Police Regional Office 7 is supporting the Department of Energy in the crackdown against illegal butane canister re-fillers and dealers in Central Visayas.
Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Bañas, PRO 7 director, said they can assist the DOE 7 personnel in any raid the agency would initiate.
He said he suggested to DOE 7 director Antonio Labios to create a task force “to address the problem as one.”.
