Organic festival sales
hit P1.6M in two days

The 10 th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival recorded gross sales of P1,618,927.80 on Wednesday and Thursday, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported yesterday.

Among the organic produce and by-products sold at the organic market are organic food, fresh fruits and vegetables, crops, plants, sweets, and many others coming from the organic farms of the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, as well as from organic organizations, a press release from the Capitol said.

Sustainable innovations and technologies practiced by different farmer-producers and advocates, are also showcased at the market.

Slow food importance stressed

Slow Food Negros Island reiterated to Negrense agriculturists, consumers, farmers, producers and youth the value of mindful eating and importance of good, clean and fair local food and ingredients during the first Slow Food Negros Island Summit at the Social Hall of the Capitol Building in Bacolod City, yesterday.

Dr. Anabel Villanueva told Negrenses to never forget food in their localities and their original ingredients.

Good food also correlates with clean food, clean means no pesticides, are naturally grown and will not cause diseases to those who eat them, she said.

Aquaculture forum
at Capitol today

An organic and responsible fishers forum is set this afternoon at the Social Hall, Provincial Capitol Main Building, Bacolod City to introduce technologies in the aquaculture industry to fisherfolk.

Dr. Armigenia Benedicto, provincial focal person on organic agriculture said yesterday this is part of the Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival to which fisherfolk in coastal municipalities and schools offering course in fisheries were invited.

This project is now in place through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, where fisherfolk will learn how to grow milk fish, tilapia and crab, organically, she said.
