Aquaculture forum
at Capitol today

An organic and responsible fishers forum is set this afternoon at the Social Hall, Provincial Capitol Main Building, Bacolod City to introduce technologies in the aquaculture industry to fisherfolk.

Dr. Armigenia Benedicto, provincial focal person on organic agriculture said yesterday this is part of the Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival to which fisherfolk in coastal municipalities and schools offering course in fisheries were invited.

This project is now in place through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, where fisherfolk will learn how to grow milk fish, tilapia and crab, organically, she said.

Topics will include technology updates on organic milkfish and mangrove crab by Florida Dieta, Organic Aquaculture focal person- Brackish Water, BFAR, technology updates on organic Tilapia and Ulang by Zaldy Hechanova , OA Focal Person- Fresh Water, BFAR and Responsible Seafoods by seafood social entrepreneur Christian Schimdradner, Meliomar Inc., she added.

In Negros Occidental, Sagay is the leading city in the aquaculture industry, while Cadiz ranks first in commercial and dried fish and they hope to promote it more in other towns and cities, she said.*KDP
