Team Bacolod eyes medals
in Batang Pinoy nat'l finals

Athletes and officials representing Bacolod City joined the parade as the 2015 Batang Pinoy National Championship opened at the Abellana Sports Complex in Cebu City.

Headed by Art Puentevella of the Office of Youth and Sports Development, the Bacolod team is strengthened by the presence of young athletes who are targeting the gold medal in the competition that will run until Dec. 2.

Proudly holding the city banner were softball player Grecilyn Alipato and karateka Randy Dave Mengullo.

Equally determined to bring home medals from the competition are the athletes from South Cotabato province who came fully prepared for the competition.

Jinky Avance, South Cotabato sports and youth development coordinator, said their athletes and coaching staff have prepared well for the national games.

She said Team South Cotabato is comprised 56 athletes and 24 officials, coaches and trainers.

“We're hopeful and confident that our intensive preparations will translate to strong performances,” she said.

Avance said their delegation will compete in the seven sports events that it topped in the Mindanao qualifying leg held in Koronadal City last Oct. 24 to 29.

It garnered a total of 14 golds, nine silvers and 21 bronze medals in the qualifying games.

South Cotabato placed eighth overall in the qualifying round but its athletes made impressive performances in athletics boys and girls, pencak silat, taekwondo, softball, boxing, swimming and arnis.*
