The legal counsel of the 11 lot owners at Buri Road in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City, has proposed to the city government, the payment of a minimal valuation on their property during a meeting with acting Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya yesterday.
The complainants had earlier filed a complaint for just compensation against the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Bacolod City Government after the lapse of the ultimatum they had set. In September.
Pauline Nuega, their legal counsel, yesterday said the proposal came after tension arose between the lot owners and the workers of the project being initiated by the DPWH Thursday.
She said the claimants also suggested that they stick with the decision not to allow the portion of their lots touched during the road rehabilitation if the city fails to agree with their proposal.
The city can still come up with whatever proposals they can offer, she added.
Nuega said the city government represented by Gasataya has committed to come up with a proposal for the city to be able to take possession of the Buri road legally.
She expressed her appreciation to Gasataya for trying to resolve the issues, despite his temporary assumption, she said.
Despite the proposals, Nuega said the case will still push through in order to come up with the value for just compensation of the claimants.
Meanwhile, Gasataya said he believes they had a fruitful initial discussion yesterday and that he already directed newly-appointed City Legal Officer Juvy Dioso to review the motion to dismiss and just compensation cases relative to the Buri road issue.
He is also set to meet with the DPWH and the contractor of the project to request for the temporary stoppage of the construction to maintain peace and order in the area, he said.*CGS
