Salesian's China Province
superior arriving today
The Salesians of Don Bosco in Negros Occidental will host Fr. Lanfranco Fedrigotti, who serves as the congregation's superior of China Province today, following the successful visit Sept. 27 of Fr. Vaclav Klement, regional superior for East-Asia Ocenia Region, a press release from the school said.
Fr. Eugenio Maglasang, Salesian rector for Victorias City and Don Bosco Technical Institute, said the visit of “Fr. Fei”, as Fr. Fedrigotti is popularly called in Hong Kong where he is based, is in response to the request of Fr. Godofredo Atienza, the Philippines South Provincial, who sought help on the need to assign Chinese-speaking priests at St. John's Institute and the Queen of Peace Parish, the Filipino-Chinese chaplaincy in Bacolod City, located inside the SJI premises.
SJI, co-founded as Hua Ming by the late Msgrs. John Liu and John Su in the late 1950s, is being managed by Salesians in Negros Occidental.
Fr. Fedrigotti, interestingly, speaks Mandarin and Cantonese, and his official visit to Hua Ming is a clear manifestation of the Salesian Mission's commitment to strengthen its Chinese apostolate work, both in teaching Chinese language and Chinese arts, culture and traditions as well, Fr. Reechee Espiritu, the Congregation's coordinator for SJI, said.
While in the province, Fr. Fei is scheduled to meet with the SJI Board of Trustees, the school alumni, school administrators and faculty as well as Chinese and Taiwanese clerics and religious, who are in formation in the Philippines, the press release said.
The Philippines has been the training ground for the formation of candidates for Salesian life, including those who are eventually assigned to the China Province, Atienza said.*
